The FrieslandCampina contract to construct PAVE II

General

Visser & Smit Bouw was awarded the contract to extend the FrieslandCampina facility in Leeuwarden. This is not the first project that Visser & Smit Bouw has undertaken for FrieslandCampina. We were also involved in the expansion of both the cheese factory in Workum and the milk factory in Maasdam.

Visser & Smit Bouw are responsible for the increase of production capacity from 1 billion to 1.5 billion kilos of milk. FrieslandCampina use this milk to make coffee milk and other condensed milk products. The milk processing facility was not only extended, but also moved. As a result, the distance between the milk delivery and processing areas was halved. The extension was deemed necessary because of the abolition of the milk quota in 2015. As a result, dairy farmers are expected to increase their production. Another reason is the increasing demand for condensed milk products in Africa and the Middle East.

The project in Friesland is locally referred to as 'Condense', named after the condensation plant which has stood there since 1913.
