The project involved the expansion of D-Hall for baggage handling.
This involved an extension to the existing D-Hall in the direction of the platform, in an operational area. The facades are composed of a composite aluminium system with glazed panels.
On the ground floor there are some technical plant areas. The first floor is reserved for the baggage system machinery. The second floor contains support functions in the form of technical areas and offices.
This project was notable for the fact of having to work on the airside (literally between the aircraft). Works were undertaken (also at height) in compliance with very strict safety and security requirements and on a very limited construction site. For this reason a very detailed project and logistics plan was required. All surrounding buildings and installations were in constant use. The daily operational process of the airport was not disturbed.
The project was delivered by VolkerWessels Bouw Schiphol (a trading name of Visser & Smit Bouw bv).
