Visser & Smit Bouw, in combination with HOMIJ Technical Installations delivered the renovation and construction works for Theater Heerlen.
This project involved the total architectural renovation of the existing Theatre (approx. 11 000sqm), including enlargement of the proscenium, orchestra pit and auditorium along with changes to the layout of the building. New works included the addition of a loading dock (approx. 630sqm) and a new central hall /black box (approx. 2000sqm).
In addition, the whole building was outfitted with architectural installations, E and W-installations, sprinkler systems, transport area and theatre installations that meet the current requirements of comfort, functionality, health and safety, fire safety and environmental legislation. The catering areas and offices have been relocated, refitted and all services renewed. The existing lifts have been replaced leading to an increase in capacity. The building has been made fully accessible. It also has a new, more transparent look.
The theatre has been extended with a new modern hall, a so-called black box theater space, which is equipped with removable seating and other stagecraft novelties such as movable floors. The renovated theater can now hold more than 3000 people simultaneously following the revitalisation and expansion.
