The engineering and construction of three road tunnels with service buildings, namely North, Middle and South. The service buildings will contain security rooms with associated services.
The engineering aspects are delivered by using BIM (Building Information Modelling).
Our works are part of the overall project A4 Delft-Schiedam. For years, there has been insufficient road capacity to meet the volume of traffic between the Hague and Rotterdam. The construction of the A4 motorway between Delft and Schiedam, which has been discussed for more than 25 years, will bring an end to the continual traffic jams on the A13. The Department of Public Works along with the consortium A4ALL will construct 7 km of new motorway from Delft to the Kethelplein. The first 2.6 km of the new motorway (from Delft) will be half-sunken below ground level. The following 1.4 km is further deepened up until the service buildings near Vlaardingen and Schiedam. Thereafter the motorway disappears into a 2 km long road tunnel. After this the A4 crosses the Kethelplein intersection and connects to the existing A4 to the Benelux Tunnel and the A20 On the A4 between the Kruithuisweg in Delft and the Beatrixlaan in Rijswijk a double layer of porous asphalt will be layed and new overhead traffic signals introduced. The new infrastructure will be operational by the end of 2015.
