Transport technology & outfitting (TT&A) North/South line

Amsterdam

We are working on the completion of the North/South line for the municipality of Amsterdam.

Straight through Amsterdam

We have been commissioned by the municipality of Amsterdam for the fit-out of the North/South line under our trading name VIA NoordZuidlijn (VIA). The finishing contract for the North/South line is also called the TT&A contract (Transport Technology and Finishing). This involves 10 kilometres of double tracks, and 7 stations. The total area of the stations that will be realized is 28,854m2 GFA.

The route runs right through the heart of Amsterdam, connecting Amsterdam North and Amsterdam South. The line starts at Buikslotermeerplein in Amsterdam-Noord (near the A10 ring road) and ends at Zuid Station in the central reservation of the A10, just past the RAI. The Zuid station will connect to the existing Amstelveen line.

The route

The route passes landmarks like the IJ, Central Station and Rokin. The total length of the line is approximately 10 km of double tracks with nearly 7.1 km below ground. Just after the RAI complex, the lines emerge from below ground to connect with the Zuid station. Due to the length of the project, it is divided into phases.

The full list of station names and their abbreviations are:

  • Noord (ND)
  • Noorderpark (NDP)
  • Centraal Station (CS)
  • Rokin (RKN)
  • Vijzelgracht (VZG)
  • De Pijp (DPP)
  • Europaplein (EPP)
  • Zuid (ZD)

Project execution

Transport Technology & Fit-out (TT&A) North/South line is a Design and Construct contract + System Engineering based on the Preliminary Design of Benthem Crouwel Architekten. VIA NoordZuidlijn line (VIA) is responsible for the System Engineering, Process management, System integration and the Engineering for all the following activities:

  • Overground track works such as ballasting, overhead lines, track laying, points, traction (incl. power rail).
  • Below ground concrete substructure for the tracks and the in-situ, submersed and bore tunnels.
  • All railway installations, rails, points, traction (including power rail), etc. in the tunnel.
  • The fit-out of the seven stations, two above ground and five below ground, comprises elevators and escalators (92 escalators, 25 lifts and 4 travelators), glass and ceramic wall linings, ceilings and tiled floors.
  • New Energy building and Emplacements building.
  • Construction of a jacking pit and entire tunnel section near the Scheldeplein for the tunnel boring machine including the later removal of the temporary construction pit.
  • Strengthening the quay construction at the Sixhaven logistics site (removing the sheet piling and the capping on the old quay and installing new capping on the new quay).
  • All building-related service in the stations.
  • Coordination with subcontractors, especially those responsible for Signalling & Controls and Telecom/ICT.
  • Site facilities such as logistics hubs, temporary accommodation and permits.

The project must be carried out with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment. That means: as far as possible minimising the size of the building sites and reducing the associated traffic and noise in the city.
