Gas Storage Bergermeer consists of a well site, where the gas is pumped in and out of the gas field and a plant where the gas is treated and stored under pressure. The gas treatment plant is located on the Boekelermeer-Zuid 2 industrial park in Alkmaar.
The gas storage project involved the renovation of nine existing wells and the construction of fourteen new wells. All the new wells were constructed and finished underground within the existing well site. Once the work was completed there was nothing visible above ground in Bergermeer. The surroundings will be permanently set up and managed as a nature reserve. In addition, an agreement has been made with a number of farmers which will temporarily make an additional 18.5 hectares of land available as nesting grounds for meadow birds. A network of pipelines will be laid between the well site and the treatment plant and from there to the gas transmission network.
Visser & Smit Bouw was responsible for all the civil works including all the detailed engineering for the adjustments that needed to be done to the existing location.
